The usual NYE laid-back chill-a-thon is just over the (snowy?) horizon once again. Not much explanation is needed, if you've been to any of our New Year's shindigs before, than you already know that it's much less a party and much more a kick-back with good friends, quality drinks, and tasty lesbian-approved cigars.
So, if the mild-mannered pinky-in-the-air crowd is your cup of booze this year, come on down. So bring yourself, your plus-one, a snack or a drink if possible, and once again reflect on how time is passing us by.

And freedom, an obscenity. And into this dark heartland, a prophet stalked his enemy. Until, diminished by his wounds, he turned to the next in the ancient line of light. And so it was that the fate of mankind came to rest on the trembling shoulders of the most reluctant of saviors.

There was magic then, nobility, and unimaginable cruelty. And so it was, until the day that a false sun exploded over trinity. And man forever traded away wonder, for reason.
In the grand tradition forged in early 2009 by the Twin Peaks marathons, our endurance will once again be challenged. Much like Twin Peaks, Carnivàle is the sort of show where much more can be absorbed and understood in a single sitting. It's a detail-heavy piece of art. Carnivàle begins at 2pm on Saturday, March 19th. About 8 hours of the 12 hours will be covered, with dinner and snacks along the way. Sunday morning is brunch, followed by the remaining 4 hours of season one. Just like last time, crashing is welcome and encouraged. The Carnivàle pajama party will be in full-effect.

Friday January 28th will be a night to embrace the Coen Brothers, in all of their cinematic glory. One of their finest silly films, Raising Arizona, and one of their finest serious films, Fargo, will join forces to create a double-feature of epic proportions.
Join us starting at 6pm, for food, beer, and two spectacular films - so damned spectacular - that even if you've already seen both of them, you are still coming to see them each again.

An ultra-violent dystopian social allegory, a mind-bending identity crisis with mutants and martians, and a fascist military satire featuring giant insects and pointedly attractive teenagers. The social commentary is heavy. The sci-fi is bigger than the screen. The action is horrifically bloody. And the half-naked actors are in full effect. This is the future as only Paul Verhoeven can see it. And it's my pleasure to present it by means of his three finest films.
Robocop [1987] - A super-human cyborg is haunted by memories of his own brutal murder, and discovers he may be just a pawn in a larger scheme involving gentrification and corporate police corruption.
Total Recall [1990] - Inspired by the short story from science fiction master Philip K. Dick, a mild-mannered construction worker finds himself in the middle of an interplanetary conspiracy. But is his entire reality a delusion and his identity a dream?
Starship Troopers [1997] - Beautiful people battle senselessly hostile insects to earn their citizenship in a propaganda-laden, militaristic future society. Based on the novel by Robert A. Heinlein.
So get ready for loud, bloody science fiction, coupled with the usual fare of great food, great people, and quality adult beverages. If you think you remember these films, think again. And if you are too young to remember, then the time is now. Time and date details will be forthcoming. But suffice to say, there is nowhere you'd rather be.
