Twin Peaks: A Damn Fine Marathon [part 2]

Episodes 17-29 plus Fire Walk With Me

The town of damn fine coffee and cherry pie is calling once again. This time around, we know who killed Laura Palmer. But there is more darkness to uncover in the town where nothing is as it seems...

The Final stretch is upon us. Part 1 saw us thru the two-hour pilot episode, as well as the following 16 episodes, over the course of two days and a lot of beer. The madness of the undertaking was only overshadowed by the fact that we pulled it off, with a large group and no complaints.

Part 2 will pick up where we left off, beginning with episode 17 and wrapping up a day later with the prequel film, Fire Walk With Me.

Similar accommodations will be in place as with part 1. Anyone interested in starting off with a group lunch or buffet of some kind, plans will be forthcoming. I'll be mixing up a gourmet breakfast to kick off the second day as well. Anyone is welcome to help out in the food and alcohol departments. And of course it goes without saying that cherry pie and coffee will be on hand.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend, but unlike part 1, you're not going to understand what's going on unless you were either in attendance for part 1, or you've seen the series before. And very much like last time, it will be a true endurance challenge. But in this case, we've dont it before. We'll do it again.

Damn Fine Indian Buffet:

The Only way to settle into a Marathon

Well, this is pretty simple. Last time we opted to sit about and watch Twin Peaks for 2 straight days, we got things kicked off with some fine Indian Buffet. It was delicious, and no one complained, so I guess we're just going to have to do it again. Just as with last months Marathon part 1, the upcoming part 2 will be launching mid-day, at 2pm. That gives us plenty of time to graze another fine Indian establishment in Milwaukee in preparation for the final Peaks chapter.

Those in attendance will know the Damn Fine Marathon begins at 2pm. Anyone interested in kicking off the final leg of this marathon with some delicious all-you-can-eat goodness, we're meeting up at 12:30. Either at Indian Rasoi or we'll carpool from my house. Just let me know if you're interested, and depending on how many people, we'll coordinate from there.

Those that are coming to the marathon but won't be up for Indian, rest assured that as usual, and certainly just like last time, the house will be over-stocked with food and alcohol. I'll be cooking and baking up a storm as is tradition, so you won't go hungry if you're not coming to the buffet. But of course, I'm hoping to see many of you there.

Twin Peaks: A Damn Fine Marathon [part 1]

Pilot episode plus Episodes 1-16

Even those of us who are too young to remember the surreal and maddening cult classic that turned TV on its side in the early 90s, may at least find a near-familiar memory in the now infamous question it begged: "Who killed Laura Palmer?"

Twin Peaks was, and still remains one of the most twisted and original experiments ever to make it to television. A collaboration between veteran TV writer Mark Frost and seemingly disturbed film director David Lynch, the show was part murder mystery, soap opera, comedy, and paranormal drama. It explored the duality of dreams and nightmares, all the while prying away at the supposed beauty of small town life. "In a town like Twin Peaks, nothing is as it seems..." In short, it was and still is a pop culture phenomenon, and to date it remains my personal favorite television show of all time, and serves as a compelling reason why TV today is mostly a waste of time.

Length-wise, Twin Peaks is too much to digest in a single sitting, even for a raving mad peaker like myself. In fact, it's a lot to ask out of two sittings, but were trying it anyway. The Damn Fine Marathon will begin on Saturday afternoon around 2pm. I'll brew up a pot of damn fine coffee, and set out the cherry pies. The pilot plus the first 16 episodes is just under 14 total hours of video. With a little luck and madness, not to mention sleep, we will be watching the killers confession by mid-day Sunday.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend, but be fairly warned: This event will be an endurance challenge. There will be plenty of breaks for meals, snacks, running around silly outside, decompression in general, and we will break for sleep Saturday night, returning on Sunday morning to finish what we started. Anyone is welcome to crash, there will be couches and futons and various accomodations for all that desire them.

Those that survive may wish to attend part 2, for which a date will be determined later on. But for now, start stretching, get your eye drops out, and save the date. The most bizarre series of all time will be calling you January 31st, and no one is ever the same after...

Damn Fine Indian Buffet:

A Prelude to a Marathon

Nothing will put 10 to 15 people in a sit down and watch TV for hours mood better than dropping an all-you-can-eat Indian bomb of spicy goodness in their collective guts. Lucky for us the following coincidences are lining up: First, The Twin Peaks Marathon is looming, and it will require a lengthy stretch of sitting and watching TV. Second, the marathon will be kicking off mid-day, unlike the many movie nights that have preceded it. This lines it up with the lunch buffet window of 11:30 to 3:00. And of course, Milwaukee is lucky to have its very own Maharaja, which I rightly consider the best Indian restaurant I've ever frequented. (and I've frequented many).

As those planning to attend already know, the Damn Fine Marathon begins at 2pm. Anyone interested in starting the afternoon off with some delicious all-you-can-eat, let's meet up at 12:00. Either at Maharaja or we'll setup some carpools from my house. Just let me know if you're interested, and depending on how many people, we'll coordinate from there.

Those that are coming to the marathon but won't be up for Indian, rest assured that as usual, my house will be over-stocked with food and alcohol. I'm planning on cooking and baking up a storm as I tend to do, so you won't go hungry just cause you're not stuffing yourself like the rest of us from the get-go. Even so, I'm hoping to see many of you there.
